Experimenting with the new Live Writer

This rather quick update on my blog is to test the capabilities of the new Live Writer that allows one to edit blogs. This is really a plus point for me because Im not comfortable with the slow and unstable web interface. Well, I can now be relieve of sudden "wipe out" of my long entries which is caused by sudden disconnections, accidentally pressed the "Back" button (believe me... it is agonising to rewrite the whole entry again)

So now with a brand new look, Im actually quite pleased with the new interface and the writer program. Kudos to microsoft for bring the Live project into the msn spaces. It reallly does make life easier and more support for other external add-ons. I shall look forward to more stuff and explore its new capabilities. Wait... it also supports movable type? This is so awesome and I truly wish there are more word press stuff coming out soon in the official version.

Album Review - Mighty To Save, Hillsong Church

Hillsong has always been producing quality and worshipful albums. This particular album stood out among other live worship album. At first, judging from the last two live albums, the direction seem to be going to modern rock praise and worship. But after listening to this album, I saw it slowly drifting away from the path of rock and returning back to its roots "The True Hillsong Genre" has indeed returned and they are indeed back with full of zest and Hillsong hype and swings.

The new Live Worship album: "Mighty To Save" is indeed a new, refreshing, but true to the "Hillsong style", hype but a diverse blend of music from modern pop to heavy rocking praise, to hillsong-ish swing and pop. Hillsong is back on their original roots again!

Thus, here you go, the list of songs and their reviews...

Take It All
This version is quite different from the United Live album. The intro seemed fuzzy with random streaks of sounds coming out. It also showed a different variation of intro by the rhythmic guitar but in the same chord range. The rest of the song is quite the same like the original version, with random guitar distortions coming out and everywhere. "He has the power to save the world, my life", the proclamation of salvation, and that we are not ashamed of this very fact. Take it all!

The Freedom We Know
A fresh way of putting rock and acoustics into good use. Wacky bass riffs, jamming electric guitars and also once again proclamation of salvation. It features a contemporary feel of usage of chords. In other words, this is one lively and catchy tune and incorporates with lyrics that repeatingly declare and "dance, dance, dance" to the freedom we know we are having now....

For Who You Are
A beautiful acoustic + electric guitar arrangement intro and accom. This piece declares our worship for the king. This song really shows the glory and the joy to worship our king and really lifts one's spirit to declare and praise with repeating verses in the choruses. A beautiful praise song indeed.

You Alone Are God
The rock feel slowly fade away, and keyboard arpeggios floating all around. This is a slow, yet modern and building up to the other songs. The chorus is magnified with declaring His glory. Indeed true to Hillsong ways, it is followed by a electric guitar interlude to the bridge, declaring His reign on the earth.

At The Cross
Soft, gentle, yet comforting. 3 words. Lovely. Picture the environment where you are close to the cross and the words you utter: "I know You love me". Another beautiful solo piece with lovely lyrics.

From The Inside Out
Don't mistake this version as similiar to the original one. As this one is more livelier and what can I say... It nearly put me to tears and even as a hear this song, I sang along and begin to feel this sense of declaring and reassurance with this lyrics. The Hillsong has done a great work in remaking this song, though with minor changes, but it has certainly made a big difference and has put it as one of the major songs Hillsongs has ever produced in the past decade.

Found
The intro begins with the all so familiar electric keys sound. This song is generally soft and gentle all around. Note the lyrics. They are simply meaningful and a simple dialogue session. Simple and Clean. Just too great.

More to See
I was quite surprise with this song. It is a bright and lively song. It features an all women voices choir. Yes. The Hillsong is beginning to touch their own genre they have nearly lost from the last two albums. A bright gospel song with true to your heart hillsong style, yours truly. The hillsongs are truly back man! Give this song a go, and you could actually be surprised too!

Adonai
The rocking vibe just cut in again! This song brings back the United band back with rock and loud groove. The song is more livelier than any other songs in the album, however done with balance between the loud electric guitars and gentle acoustic guitars. The bass groove is really wacky and the rhythm is just.... what can I say? So United-like. Good one!

I Believe
The fading volume of rockish music suddenly perked up again. Rock music, catchy and true to United quality of music. With hints of trumpets, which are Planet Shaker's forte feature. I somehow feel it leaning towards planet shakers way of  music arrangement. But Im quite pleased with the overall effect it managed to achieve and a well-written lyrics, affirmation of what we believe, The Son of God, truly a great song to follow up.

Oceans Will Part
The volume tones down as the piano plays on the intro.  A great vocal song accompanied with the piano. Hillsongs really has their own magic when it comes to their lyrics. It may be very familiar to say this, but I somehow think that theme focuses on the declaration of God's mighty power. The entire team has done well in reviving not only their music, but the revamp of their lyrics, the words they used in the songs are so beautiful and touching, it is also very meaningful and worshipful.

None But Jesus
This version features an unplugged acoustic guitar and vocal. Simple, quiet but true to heart. The lyrics are still the same and it seemed much clearer to notice now. It may have improved because of this approach being well used.

Higher with I Believe In You
As the title suggests, it is another declaration piece, with a loud and majestic music. The music really fits properly the declaration parts and the build up pre chorus "Higher" seems to give a worshipful and praise manner. Indeed a beautiful song and filled with spirit. The other song in this part of the medley, "I Believe In You" is a lively and high-spirited and loud arrangement with repeating chants of "I owe You my life" really makes a good closing to this great medley.

Mighty To Save
The cover song. The theme of it all. Its altogether lively and the lyrics are just so true to the Hillsong spirit, ever praising and thanksgiving filled the air during that night when they recorded it live with thousands of worshippers.

This bring an end to my humble review of this live album. What can I say, if u give me to rate this album, it has potential for a PERFECT score. I'll not be surprised if christianitytoday.com will rate it 5/5. As for me you can now see the reason why Im willing to spend time to write a review on my blog when Im so lazy to even update it. This album really brings back the hillsongs, and true to heart lyrics with constant declaration of His love and His Salvation to all! Yahoo!

"Savior, He can move the mountains
My God is mighty to save
He is mighthy to save
Forever offer us salvation
He rose and conquenred the grave...
Jesus conquered the grave!"

4, 3, 2, 1 paper to go... Exams are finally over!!

Is it me or is my last paper has got to be an accounting paper... Same thing happened last year and it is even another cost accounting paper. If you browse a few posts down there, another deja vu suddenly struck me because it is also a management accounting subject I took last year.
How Im gonna know and foresee what will happen, the tension and the pressure to complete the final paper of the semester. However, this time it is not the same. It seems that I got a hang at it (from last year?) and I felt as is it is not a 'last' paper. Which means I felt unusually calm during the paper. The 'tension' level isn't that high and this happened in all 4 papers. Maybe I have gotten used to the 'exam culture' and an exam is just an exam!
Given the ample free time, Im pretty sure I have lots to blog about and have many plans to revive the blog. Maybe I should start by giving a more frequent update so that it can finally be active again.
So now Im having holidays, not a long one, but enough to keep myself revived for the next final semester. I hope that I can use these holidays more fruitfully than just spending it on online games. So Im going to make a list of thing to do during the holidays:

1. Be more involved in MYF
2. Watch a drama in KLPAC
3. Watch a movie with friends
4. Learn to bake that elusive tiramisu
5. Help around in the house
6. Get closer contact with my small group members
7. Get started for my career planning
8. Get ready for my final semester

Well that's all I can think of and hopefully I can finish all of these task I bestoweth myself. Amen.

Im Back From The Blogging Dead

I know... this blog has been dead for months... So Im so busy with all my university work after my internship. Anyway, what a lame attempt to revive the blog. I really can't blame anyone for this, its just myself being lazy to update the blog further.

Ok. So recently there were many things I like to blog about and I cant due to laziness. So how about listing out here in clear point form:

1. Cousin came back from thailand, we did a great Thai cookout and yes I still have the pictures but it will not ignite your senses as the photos dont look nice at all.

2. Written an album for him. Ok. So its not quite an album however its just 8 songs inspired by him, composed by me yours truly.

3. Enjoyed a new found freedom in university life after extreme boredom and stress from my internship. Until.... exams have arrived.

Yup. You got it. Im actually in the midst of exams, so please be patient and wait for my blog to be updated with possibly goodies from the 3 listings above.

I promise.

Back To Work... Drags me self to the office

Today marks the end of all holidays. As I slowly strolled from my car to my workplace, the sense of heavy burden filled my heart and thoughts dangling of whether I still remember what Im supposed to do, and another thing is whether I still remember my colleagues after such a long week of holidays.

I reached my office. Got into my department. Nobody. Ok. Maybe Im a little bit early today.
Sat down.
On my PC.
Wait.
30 minutes past working time.
Still nobody.

I guess nobody in my department is coming today. Funny. This is my first time encountering such an event. What a blessing in disguise too. But.... its all too lonely. What Im gonna do. My colleague is not here and he havent assign me anything to do oso. SO I WAIT.

Wait.
Its One-Hour-And-Half past my starting time.
So I Blogged.

If they come. I'll update.
If no updates, I guess I'll be sitting and dying at the same time in front of the PC in this ultra super boring room.
What a good way to start work lidat.

CNY post.....again

Well this year's CNY has been quite silent for me as both my parents will be away on an overseas trip. Yes, you got what I mean, no more big ang pows this year, Im still calculating the losses I have to endure this year. Well I couldn't be calculative. I should count my blessings that I have instead of that. Silly me.

However, I had (and still have) a time of learning to accept people as they are and forgiving each other through sincere reconciliation. The true spirit of CNY is actually practising a sense of unity and togetherness, and I need not say and you know that family ties should come first after all. Looking back at time, a short two days stay with my grandma have resolved and calmed my uncertain feeling about this place I belong to.Whatever people might comment or critic, I guess the right thing has been done, and we have did our best to let grandma to enjoy this new year.

Well, as promised, the pics of one of my humble CNY feast is out. Even though it is just my family and grandma, I simply treasure times like these, where we can finally sit down together and eat (come to think bout it we never did for the whole year). We simply owe my mother a sign of thanks for that hard work she put into the cooking. So delay no more... here are the pictures of the dinner we had last night:

Surimi abalone with braised mushrooms, hoe see, fattchoy and vegetables

Clockwise from top: Char Nyuk(hakka), squid curry(its great) and tomato prawn(also nice)

As you can see, I just love the way simple things are on the table, apart of less oil and fat, its simplicity churns out an unspeakable goodness when you start to eat.

It is simply the heart that you wear
It is simply the words that you say
It is simply the sense of togetherness
And not the food that you consume

These four sentences have been with me for a long time, and from it I try to remind myself to join in the family dinner table as often as I could and store it in my heart as a loving memory for years to come. For me, while baking the cookies, I realised one important thing you must have--- the heart to do it. Never bear grudge or anger, you just wont get it right in the end. I guess its another one of the things that life can teach us.

Thats all for today. I guess you could expect more and more things from my blog soon. Until I get back to my workplace. See ya!

Pre-CNY GREETINGS

Yeah... the previous blog was somehow a little bit... err depressing... however don't worry cause its to be continued, whether its gonna be a change or not you got the hint already then!

Well... This year's CNY will be celebrated in KL, something that has not happened in years, cause my granny is now in KL. Well the reunion lunch was great, although its only my family and granny, the food seemed tastier and great. The spread included sweet sour pork (sorry non halal), Hu Pioh Th'ng (fish maw soup), steamed chicken with oyster sauce, ginger duck, braised sea cucumber and mushrooms and siew pak choy. Although its a bit lighter, I do have an appreciation for healthier and less saltier meals. And then again I was too busy helping out, and the food was too hard to resist, NO PICTURES of the delightful spread! Maybe I can get another picture tomorrow on the first day spread... All thanks to my mum who has been going back and forth the market and the kitchen, the food tasted wonderful.

About my kuih bangkit, well I gave another try yesterday and it turn out just right this time! Somehow, the mould has been rendered useless for this recipe as it will kembang (expand) until its rocky round. Should have use a cookie cutter instead. So all in all its not so nice to look at... Maybe I try with a cookie cutter and a photo will be taken if it can do justice for the eyes ha...

Staying home for CNY is actually the same thing, cause granny is around, theres TV, theres my laptop and streamyx (goodness how am I to BLOG if not) and my own bed to sleep in. The only difference is we got shopping malls at out doorstep and importantly a car to go visit visit.

I decided to give my blog a change of color and what better colour for CNY which is ......

RED!!!!!!!!!!! (ok correction... I cant find any "he-theme" that is RED so ORANGE is the closest)

Im not superstitious or what, just that people get tired with the same old thing, so time to give a fresh change (AND OHH my EYES), dont worry, as I will get an "eye friendly" layout SOON after it all ends...

So guys keep on looking out as I will continue to update my blog. Heres wishing you all A HAPPY CNY and for people leaving KL, DRIVE CAREFULLY and may God Pour His Blessings on you during this season of unity.
